The second program was on Stress Management at Telenor Pakistan.

Manager Organizational Development Naushad H. Javaid and Telenor Pakistan’s in house counselor Dr. Faaiza Haroon spoke to Fasi Zaka about on-job techniques for managing stress. Different initiatives underway to prevent stress at Telenor Pakistan were also discussed.

Stress at work occurs in every competitive industry, big or small, with all employees. The aim should not be to eliminate it but to manage it.
A number of multinational companies around the world have dedicated departments, programs and professional staff to help employees manage work-related stress.
Telenor Pakistan, too, has an in-house counselor and a team of qualified medical doctors who work with employees to help manage their stress.
Cultural taboos about going to a counselor are proving to be only myths. You are not ‘going mad’ if you seek professional advice.
Telenor Pakistan ensures 100% confidentiality during our counseling sessions.
Telenor Pakistan has many core organizational development processes in which Internal Value Creation (IVC) plays an important part. This is basically an employee survey conducted annually to take feedback/suggestions on how to improve processes and work environment at Telenor Pakistan, including the stress issues.
Symptoms to watch out for: Physical, Emotional, Behavioral. If you feel you are depressed, feeling fatigued or angry, it is ok to talk to a counselor. He or she will only help you identify the real cause of distress and recommend steps to overcome them.
Telenor Pakistan cares for its employees; it provides an open space environment but at the same time specific thinking rooms specially designed to provide an escape for creative thinking. Company portal features weekly health tips written by in-house doctors for employees.
International companies help employees manage stress through providing annual leaves, medical insurance and stress management workshops. At Telenor Pakistan, we have specific initiatives designed especially to prevent stress at work:

We have special after work yoga classes for employees
We provide in-house recreational facilities and a Gym at the office premises.
Pool cars are provided for work related travel, especially for People with disability and our female employees.
The Social Club at Telenor Pakistan regularly arranges in-house Sports Tournaments, Mango Day, festive events for National Days, etc.
Customer Relations Department has a special in-house theater for them  to unwind and watch movies.
A special ‘Counseling for Drivers’ is also underway.
