The second program focused on Career planning specifically in the areas of Technical, IT and Commercial.

Director Value Added Services (VAS) Shan Ul Haq, Manager Recruitment Faisal Khan and Manager Transmission Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Khurram Ashfaque spoke with Fasi Zaka about career management. The speakers gave useful recommendations on how to better plan for a fulfilling career.

The extracts of the program are as follows:

In today's fast-paced environment, employers are looking for all-rounders.
GPA is not the only criteria that recruiters refer to when gauging a candidate’s aptitude. His/her hunger for knowledge, passion for work, positive energy and eagerness to learn are the most important indication if they are the right candidate for an organization.
HR evaluates on the basis of behavior and competencies whereas specialized functions like Technical, IT and Commercial evaluate on the basis of applicants’ skill-set and technical knowledge.
When appearing in an interview, fresh graduates should have sound technical knowledge and ideally back their knowledge with relevant projects and internships. Experienced candidates must have relevant past experience and show greater understanding of the required job skills.
At Telenor Pakistan, the hiring trend in Technical, IT and Commercial is extremely diverse. Students with various educational backgrounds are selected from a wide range of institutes recognized by HEC (and PEC for Engineering)
In the technical divisions, business professionals also play a significant role. They are fundamental for the specialized function to stay in tune with the business requirements of the organization.
For Commercial, technical graduates are required in various departments like Products & Platforms, Sales & Distribution, Segments & Pricing, Mobile Number Portability, Business Intelligence, etc.
It is important to understand one’s own aptitude and preference when choosing a career path. It is strongly advised that youth invest in themselves and take ownership of their career choices and moves.
