Donating Books To A Model School

Volunteers from the South Region took the initiative of visiting the "Girls Community Model School Allah Wasaya" in Rahimyar Khan to see first-hand a commendable school milk and education project being run under the collaboration of Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, National Rural Support Programme, TetraPak and Shakarganj.

The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the needs of the school and how support could be extended by Telenor. It was a pleasant surprise to see a school running in Akramabad, an underdeveloped area in RYK, with the vision of a model school having all the facilities that might be present at a metropolitan school. A warm, creative and colorful welcome presentation was given to the Telenor team by the young students of the school. A tour and question/answer session with the students and school management helped to identify the need for a library for the school. This would help the students to cultivate the life-time habit of reading, with manifold benefits including improved language, vocabulary, concentration and increased general knowledge. As a result, a complete set of books and file covers were donated by Telenor to the school and this contribution was much appreciated by the students, local community, NRSP and its donors.

The dedicated volunteer who took this initiative of organizing the visit recognized the importance of working for a company as dedicated to its corporate social responsibility as Telenor is, and encouraged other fellow employees to fulfill their responsibility as good community members and highlight deserving causes within their localities as well.
