Telenor Pakistan inaugurates first franchise in AJK

Mirpur AJK, November 8, 2006: In keeping with its commitment to the development of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Telenor Pakistan inaugurated its first franchise in Mirpur today.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the official opening of a Telenor Pakistan Franchise in Mirpur, AJK, CEO Telenor Pakistan Tore Johnsen said, Telenor Pakistan has fast become a household name in Pakistan with the fastest growing network in the country and a range of products that offer great value to each unique type of customer. We are investing heavily in building local human resource, infrastructure, and operations so that the local community can take advantage of quality telecommunications in their daily lives. This is a testimony to our commitment to the development of AJK and the prosperity of its people.

Telenor Pakistan was awarded the license in June this year to extend network in AJK for the cost of PKR 60 crores. However, we were there much before that to help out the community. Immediately after last years devastating earthquake, Telenor Pakistan opened its network in Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Balakot to support emergency communication and help government, NGOs, and survivors communicate, even before formally establishing network in the area.

Experts agree that access to mobile communication boosts economic and social indicators for communities. We will make sure that we do our utmost to create opportunities for the local entrepreneurs, businesses, and individuals to connect to the outside world and benefit as we expand our coverage.

Telenor Pakistans Regional Director North for Sales & Distribution Najia Naqvi told the audience that as an already established name in AJK, Telenor Pakistan has 4 operational distribution houses employing some 40 employees. Today we are opening our first franchise in Mirpur, but by year end we hope to have 10 franchises employing up to 120 employees. We have placed our product with some 1150 retailers for our customers to have easy access, and are aiming to double this number by year end, added Najia.

Telenor Pakistan aims to provide benefits to its customers in AJK with its range of products: postpaid for businessmen, TalkShawk for the everyday mobile user, Azadi for those who would like to limit their telephony costs, and djuice for the young at heart.
