Telenor Opens Regional Office for Asian Markets

Islamabad, December 05, 2006: To meet the growing needs of the Asian market, the Telenor group opened a regional office in Bangkok, Thailand. Telenor ASA President & CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas, Deputy CEO Telenor ASA & Head of Telenor Region Asia Arve Johansen and CEO Telenor Pakistan Tore Johnsen were present at the opening along with representatives from Telenor's Asia operations.

Addressing a news conference in the Thai capital Jon Fredrick Baksaas said: Asia is already an important market for Telenor, and we reinforce our commitment to this region with the establishment of our new and expanded office in Bangkok.

Our flexible business model is centered on meeting specific needs of customers in each of the countries where we operate. We see the need, not only to act as a group, but essentially to act and be local. The opening of our regional office here in Bangkok will give us the necessary proximity to the markets where we operate while at the same time ensure a stronger coordination across our operations in Asia, said Arve Johansen.

Highlighting the significance of Telenor presence in Asia, CEO Telenor Pakistan Tore Johnsen said: Telenor Pakistan welcomes this new development since it will ensure even better support for our efforts in the development of the telecom sector in Pakistan. Telenor's interest in Asia goes back to 1996 with the joint acquisition of a license in Bangladesh. Since then, the Telenor group has been instrumental in the development of mobile communications in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand and Pakistan.

In a series of recent moves that have emphasized Telenor group growing focus on Asia, Telenor also set up a representation office in Vietnam in 2005 and opened a research and innovation center in Malaysia in 2006. .
