Telenor soars on Global Technology industry rankings

Islamabad: Tuesday, July 4, 2006: Telenor checks in at no. 25 in Business Week's global ranking of the top 100 performers in the technology industry. In the Europe-only section, Telenor has successfully landed on the 5th slot. In this global ranking Telenor is listed together with leading players such as Apple Computer, Nokia, Motorola and Google. Telenor is ranked higher than other major players such as Microsoft (no. 37), Hewlett-Packard (no. 44), Oracle (no. 51) and Yahoo (no. 56).

With a broad spectrum of Technology companies in Business Week extensive survey, Telenor's 5th position in Europe and 25th globally is indeed a strong indicator of the company business success and technological innovation. Telenor Pakistan is leading in the local market on many fronts as well “ we now have the second largest network and the most extensively segmented product portfolio in Pakistan within less than 16 months. We are committed to innovating for the customer, with the customer",said Tore Johnsen, President and CEO Telenor Pakistan.

"Telenor has fast become a major force across Eastern Europe and Asia in recent years with ownership stakes in several cellular companies. The company bolstered its position in Scandinavia at the beginning of 2006 with the acquisition of Vodafone Sweden, the third-largest mobile player in the country.
The company is benefiting from the strong growth of its operations in Eastern Europe and Russia, which include wholly owned subsidiaries in Hungary and Montenegro and as well as stakes in Kyivstar, Ukraine's largest mobile operator, and Vimpelcom, Russia's second-biggest cellular company"  Business Week reports.

Compiling the Information Technology 100, BusinessWeek began with financial data from Standard & Poor's, which has computerized information on 10,000 publicly traded corporations. They trimmed this universe to information technology companies and then added non-US tech companies recommended by their network of foreign bureaus.

The group of companies was ranked on four criteria: return on equity, shareholder return and revenue growth (which were given equal weight), and total revenues (which was weighted). Eventually, the top 100 companies were re-ranked on overall performance.

The Telenor group is an international provider of high quality telecommunications, data and media communication services. Telenor ranks as one of the biggest GSM service providers in the world with over 90 million subscribers. Telenor Pakistan is 100% owned by Telenor ASA and adds on to its operations in Asia together with Thailand, Malaysia and Bangladesh.
