Telenor Pakistan partners with President Rozgar Scheme

Islamabad September 11, 2006: Telenor Pakistan has partnered with National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) as part of the President of Pakistan Rozgar Scheme which aims to provide small loans to unemployed youth, women and low-income groups.

The partnership complements Telenor Pakistan's aim to ensure that the communities in which we operate see Telenor as a responsible company with genuine ambitions to contribute to social and economic development.

Explaining Telenor Pakistan's role in the scheme CEO Telenor Pakistan Tore Johnsen said: Sharing the same vision as the President's Rozgar Scheme, Telenor Pakistan firmly believes in alleviating poverty through employment and development of small and micro businesses. As a socially responsible company, we want to play our part by lowering the entry barrier for customers to become mobile phone subscribers and benefit from this form of communication.

Under President Rozgar Scheme, eligible individuals will be able to take a loan through NBP Karobar Scheme to set up a small business. As part of this scheme, Telenor Pakistan will provide handsets, connections and recharge facilities throughout Pakistan.
