Bangladesh telecom regulator commends Telenor Pakistan achievements

Islamabad June 19, 2007: Telenor Pakistan played host to a delegation from the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC). The delegation was headed by Chairman BTRC Maj. Gen. (R) Manzur Alam.

Following extensive meetings with Telenor Pakistan officials, the Chairman said: It is heartening to see the rapid pace of developments taking place in the Pakistan telecom market since deregulation and the similarities that exist with our market in Bangladesh. Visiting Telenor Pakistans Technical Headquarters was very valuable, and we commend the great achievements of the company in a short span of two years. We wish Telenor Pakistan the very best in future and hope that they will continue to play an active role in further developing the telecom market in Pakistan.?

EVP Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Irfan Wahab Khan commenting on the success of the visit said: Today, Telenor is one of the leading mobile communications players in Pakistan, it also has the largest presence of any operator in Bangladesh. We are honored to have had the pleasure of meeting Maj. Gen. (R) Manzur Alams and his team. The visit will help immensely in learning from each others practices and experience.?

He added: The delegation was very keen to learn about the Telenor Pakistan-led MNP initiative. We were very excited to share our experience, which has been very positive. We also shared with the delegation the fact that we met our rollout obligations within two years and that we are industry leaders in offering innovative products and services to customers.?

Telenor Pakistan officials shared with the delegation the benefits of having an end-to-end LDI backbone and international gateway activity to provide quality of service to the end user.

The delegation was also briefed on Telenor Pakistans participation at a number of forums and in conferences on promoting investment in Pakistan. These include Pakistan Malaysia Business Forum and Investment Conference in London. The Telenor Group was also the platinum sponsor of the recently-concluded World Islamic Economic Forum in Malaysia.

Telenor Pakistan officials who met the delegation included EVP Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Irfan Wahab Khan, Chief Marketing Officer Sigvart Voss Eriksen, Director Sales and Distribution Jahanzeb Taj, and LDI Business Development Manager Affan H. Khan.
