Telenor no. 5 on BusinessWeeks list of global IT 100 companies

Islamabad: Tuesday, June 26, 2007: Telenor has jumped to the no. 5 spot on BusinessWeeks 2007 global ranking of the top 100 performers in the information technology industry. Telenor beat out other well-known players such as Apple (no. 6), AT&T (no. 7) and Microsoft (no. 9). It also outdid other major players such as BT Group (no. 13), Nokia (no. 17), and Google (no. 19).

Last year, BusinessWeek ranked Telenor as no. 25 on the same list. So Telenors moving to 5th position in the 2007 survey of global information technology companies is a strong indicator of the companys business success and technological innovation. In the local market Telenor Pakistan is leading on many fronts as well we are the fastest growing network in Pakistan with the widest GPRS/EDGE coverage of any other local operator,? said President and CEO Telenor Pakistan Tore Johnsen.

BusinessWeek reports that one theme common across all the companies on the 2007 Information Technology 100 list is reinvention. For sure, we at Telenor Pakistan are constantly innovating for the customer, with the customer -- something for which we are considered as leaders in the industry,? said Tore.
Compiling the Information Technology 100, BusinessWeek began with financial data from Standard & Poor's, which has computerized information on 10,000 publicly traded corporations. They trimmed this universe to information technology companies and then added non-US tech companies recommended by their network of foreign bureaus.

The group of companies was ranked on four criteria: return on equity, shareholder return and revenue growth (which were given equal weight), and total revenues (which was weighted). Eventually, the top 100 companies were re-ranked on overall performance.
