Telenor Pakistan organizes movie shows for SOS Children nationwide

Islamabad, 27 June 2008: Telenor Pakistan successfully completes the series of movie shows of the popular childrens film Taare Zameen Par? for the orphans of SOS Childrens Villages in four major cities of Pakistan. The activity was a part of Telenor Pakistans flagship community-support initiative, DUA, in collaboration with SOS Childrens Villages of Pakistan.

The movie Taare Zameen Par (TZP) revolves around a child, Eeshant (Darsheel) who suffers from dyslexia. The movie focuses on hidden talents of children like Esshant and highlights the importance of the general behavior of the parents, teachers and the society towards them.

Telenor Pakistan arranged TZP movie shows for SOS Childrens Village in four cities across Pakistan. These included shows in Cinepax Rawalpindi on 4th May 08, DHA Cinema Lahore on 17th May 08, and Nishat Cinema, Karachi on 4th June 08. One movie show was exclusively organized at the premises of the SOS Childrens Village, Multan on 24th May 08. A total of 720 children enjoyed the film along with their teachers and mothers.

Speaking about the movie Komal Altaf, 6, of SOS Childrens Village Lahore said, It is the duty of parents and teachers to try and understand the problems of children. Being humiliated by the teachers only causes the children to lose confidence.? Another child, Sameeda, 15, SOS Children's village Rawalpindi commented It was a day full of fun and learning which will be long remembered. On behalf of my fellow children I thank Telenor Pakistan for arranging such a wonderful show for us.?

Manager Corporate Communications, Telenor Pakistan, Affan Haider at the first show in Rawalpindi said, We, at Telenor Pakistan, feel that every child is gifted with a talent that must be identified and nourished. It is a part of our social responsibility to help the society realize that every child is important. The intention behind supporting the movie was for the adults and children to adopt this message and be encouraged by it.? He further said that Telenor Pakistan intends to bring more such shows for the children of SOS Villages in other cities of Pakistan.

Telenor Pakistan donated 6.5 crore rupees to the Presidents Earthquake Relief Fund and International Red Cross for their relief efforts immediately after the earthquake. Since then Telenor has been committed to the cause of earthquake-affected children through its work with SOS.
