CM Punjab presents Appreciation award for largest FDI to Telenor Pakistan

Lahore August 15, 2008: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif presented Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industrys (LCCI) Appreciation Award for Largest Foreign Direct Investment to Telenor Pakistan, at Independence Day celebration ceremony, held on 14th August at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Lahore. The award recognizes Telenor Pakistans commitment towards investment in the country while upholding business ethics and contributing towards bridging the digital divide.

Accepting the award, CEO Telenor Pakistan Tore Johnsen, said, It is a great honour to be recognized for contributing to Pakistans social and economic development, Telenor Pakistan prides itself for its customer focus, strong ethics and community involvement. We aim to continue with our responsible business practices to ensure sustainable development in the industry which will result in providing access to all segments of the society.?

Tore thanked LCCI for the award initiative and extended a special thanks to the Chief Minister of Punjab. He said, In line with Telenor Pakistans current status as the largest European Direct Investment and the second largest operator in Pakistan within some 3 years, with more than 18 million subscribers and some 2500 direct and 25,000 plus indirect jobs, Telenor looks forward to not only continuous improvement in its current infrastructure, but also investment in upcoming 3G Technology.

Experts consider FDI to be necessary for the growth of developing economies around the world. It brings inter alia efficient management of resources, robust technology, competitiveness, and access to global markets - benefits that are made obvious by the Telecom success story in Pakistan.
