Telenor Pakistan Participates at Mela Lal Sehbaz Qalandar at Sehwan Sharif

Karachi, August 21, 2008: Telenor Pakistan, continuing to promote cultural activities in the country is, for the second time, participating in Mela Lal Sehbaz Qalandar at Sehwan Sharif on August 21 23, 2008.

The Mela Sehwan Sharif is held every year on the 18 of Sha'aban, at the Shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalander built in 1356 at Sehwan, one of the most ancient towns of modern day sub-continent as well as the Indus Valley Civilization. Hindus and Sikhs, apart from Muslims gather with equal fervor in order to pay their regards and offer prayers at the tomb of the great Sufi Saint. Founded by the Brahmans, Sehwan has been the abode and travel-way of great men like Alexander and Muhammad Bin Qasim which amplifies its significance. Today, however, the presence of the Shrine of the Great Sufi Saint, Lal Shahbaz Qalander overshadows the entire history of the famous city

Because upto one million visit the shrine every year, the Laal Shahbaz Qalander has developed over the years into a Mela. Visitors from around the world come to see the colourful stalls, traditional dances and dhamals, and trade items sold here. Telenor Pakistan, keeping in line with its commitment towards contributing to cultural activities in Pakistan has also put up a stall for the visitors. The stall would hold games, live traditional songs by local singers and other forms of entertainment for the visitors.

Commenting on its participation in the event Regional Director Sales & Distribution Central II, Telenor Pakistan, Mohammad Talib Azam Hafesjee said: This is an exciting moment for our entire team because we are getting a chance to serve yet another community in interior Sindh. Telenor Pakistan has enhanced its current network capacity in Sehwan Sharif to offer uninterrupted cellular services to participants of the Mela Lal Sehbaz Qalandar. This will enable customers attending from all over the country and abroad to stay in touch with their families throughout the congregation. We, as a corporate citizen of Pakistan, have genuine ambitions to contribute to not only economic but also social development of this country.?

Although the Urs is held on every 18th of Shaban, the Mela Sehwan Sharif lasts for 3 days. It remains one of the most visited places on the face of earth as well as one of the biggest gatherings in the world.
