Telenor Talkshawk Internet Champion concludes successfully in Punjab

Telenor Pakistan, in collaboration with the Government of Punjab, has successfully concluded the Punjab chapter of its nationwide education based initiative 'Telenor Talkshawk Internet Champion'. Internet workshops were conducted in 150 government schools of Punjab engaging over 273,000 students of the province.

The closing ceremony of the initiative for Punjab was held at a local hotel and Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly, Rana Mashhood Ahmed was the chief guest. Winners of semifinals along with their parents and school faculty attended the ceremony. After the initial rounds, finals were conducted and a winner was announced at the end. It is pertinent to mention here that 150 Mobile Internet Labs were set up in schools taking part in the grand finale.

Earlier, the Deputy Speaker of Punjab, Rana Mashhood Ahmed congratulated all the participants and appreciated their extraordinary enthusiasm throughout the competition. "Telenor Talkshawk Internet Champion project is a big step towards promoting digital awareness among the youth and we are hopeful that the collaboration between Telenor Pakistan and the Government of Punjab will continue to help empower the digital generation in the region."

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer, Telenor Pakistan, Lars Christian Iuel, expressed his gratitude towards the Government of Punjab and Punjab Education Department for helping Telenor Talkshawk Internet Champion program achieve this milestone. "We believe that every child in Punjab has the potential to contribute towards the socio-economic development of the country; all they need is skills, development and guidance in the right direction and Telenor Talkshawk Internet Champion project will go a long way in fulfillment of this objective."

Telenor Talkshawk Internet Champion is a nationwide education based initiative that aims to create, nurture and empower a new digital generation in Pakistan. The primary objective of the program is to provide learning and training to children; enabling them to tap the potential of mobile internet and be future proponents in the Digital Age.

Besides Punjab, Telenor Talkshawlk Internet Champion has successfully been concluded in AJK, KPK and Gilgit-Baltistan. The initiative will kick off soon in Sindh and Balochistan, is expected to conclude in the second quarter of 2013.

Winners from all the six regions will be visiting Opera Mini Labs in Norway, to learn more as to how the internet is being used by people around the world to gain and spread knowledge. They would also compete against each other for Pakistan's 1st Talkshawk Internet Champion title.
