Easypaisa nominated for Global Mobile Award for the third consecutive time

Islamabad –February 4, 2015: Pakistan’s first and largest branchless banking service and a joint venture between Tameer Microfinance Bank and Telenor Pakistan, Easypaisa has been nominated for the prestigious GSMA Global Mobile Awards – 2015 in the “Best Mobile Product or Service for Women in Emerging Markets” category.

This is the third consecutive time that Easypaisa has been nominated for a GSMA award, commonly dubbed as the “Oscars” of the Mobile and Telecommunication industry. Last year, Easypaisa won two GSMA awards for “Best NFC/Mobile money product or service” and “Best Mobile Product or service for women in emerging markets.” Easypaisa was the only Pakistani service to win an award in 2014.

“It is a great honor for Easypaisa to be nominated for the highest recognition in the industry for the third time,” said Nadeem Hussain, CEO and President Tameer Bank. “In merely five years of its operations, Easypaisa is becoming a true pride for Pakistan by not only making formal financial services a reality for the people but also by earning praise and great name for the country worldwide,” he added.

Expressing his delight at the nomination, Yahya Khan, Chief Financial Services Officer, Telenor Pakistan said, “It brings us great pleasure to see our efforts being recognized on the international level but our true achievement is the empowerment and sense of financial security we are bringing to the marginalized societies of Pakistan in general and women in particular.” “Easypaisa is progressing by leaps and we will work harder to maintain our stature with the nation’s pride and integrity,” he added.

This year, the Global Mobile Awards will be held on Tuesday, 3rd March at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. A record 800 entries were received for nomination by the organization. The full list of more than 270 nominees can be found at: www.globalmobileawards.com/nominees-2015.
